An open call to New Jersey Republicans

Chair Hanlon,it's time to step aside.

Ten months ago the New Jersey Republican Party chose new leadership to rebuild after 2025. On November 3, 2026, we went backward. The party needs a chair who can recruit, raise and mobilize. That means a new chair.

NJ-2

The case

This was a leadership failure.

National headwinds were real. They do not explain a 21-point swing in a seat we held, a lost seat in South Jersey, or losses down the ballot. A state party exists to prepare for hard years.

Weak candidates

Candidate quality this cycle was exceptionally poor. Recruitment is the chair's first job, and too many of our races were left to candidates who could not raise money, draw a crowd or give voters a reason to show up.

Uninspiring candidates produce uninspired voters. The results show it.

Thin fundraising

In 2026, the most important midterm for New Jersey Republicans in a decade, the party was fundraising to survive, not to thrive.

5 to 1Democrats outraised NJ Republicans in party fundraising in the first half of 2026.
$68KCash in the state party's bank account at midyear.
−45%The party's federal fundraising this cycle: about $2.1 million so far, compared with $3.8 million last cycle.

Our candidates were outspent everywhere, and we lost two of our three House seats.

No mobilization

The state party has been quiet. No visible statewide push, no ground game to match the other side's early and mail voting, no message that carried.

She promised a year-round organization. Voters barely knew the party was there.

In her own words

Promises, then excuses.

"It is a year-round organization, not just at campaign time. This is what I will bring to the table as state chair."On being elected chair · Washington Examiner
"Republicans are on offense."Insider NJ, in an interview saying Kean was on strong footing to hold NJ-7 and the party could target NJ-9
"You have the midterm backlash, which is normal, and then on top of that, you have a war, you have high gas prices."New Jersey Monitor, after the losses, adding it is too soon to chart the party's course

What we're asking

Resign, and let us rebuild.

  1. Christine Hanlon should resign as Chair of the New Jersey Republican State Committee.
  2. The State Committee should hold an open election for chair, with candidates required to present a written plan for recruitment, fundraising and turnout.
  3. The next chair should publish a full review of the 2026 cycle so the same mistakes are not repeated in 2027.

Dear State Committee Member, I am a New Jersey Republican writing to ask you to support new leadership at the state party. On November 3, we lost two of our three House seats, including a seat Tom Kean Jr. won by five points just two years ago. Senator Booker won by 27 points. Our candidates were underfunded, our recruitment was weak, and the state party was nearly invisible during the campaign. I am asking you to call on Chair Christine Hanlon to resign, and to support an open election for a chair with a real plan for recruitment, fundraising and turnout before 2027. Thank you for your service to our party. [Your name] [Your town and county]
